What new piece of camera equipment are you most excited to rent right now?

We’re just so excited to finally see the Alexa 35 come into its prime time in rentals. It’s been a slow burn since its emergence into the industry, likely because so many were obsessed with shooting LF (which we love as well!). But it’s been so exciting to see so many new images being created with this superstar camera—especially when it’s paired with some of our vintage glass, like our K35s, Mamiya 645s, Canon Rangefinders, and FDs.
As always, we take great pride and joy in seeing our 416 and 416 HS paving the way as the premier 16mm cameras in the London rental market, with our extensive inventory of 16mm glass. We’ve spent years perfecting our 16mm cameras, ensuring they have every accessory, and all are fitted with IndieAssist video taps, making it a no-brainer that when you want to shoot 16mm, you know where to hire from. We’ve spent the last 10 years perfecting our rental fleet to service all types of productions with unrivaled 5-star service.

What is the most popular choice of equipment for commercial use?

We all know the answer to this. Canon K35s… but people are starting to push more into trying some other unique and alternative options which we are so excited to see as it makes everyone’s work look so much more dynamic. People are shooting lots of mixed formats right now with lots of different cameras which is also exciting. We’re seeing lots of 35mm, 416, Bolex, Alexa 35, LF, and the Alexa Mini somehow still shines 10 years on! We’re excited to be able to supply it all and are looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings!

FERAL EQUIPMENT

https://www.feralequipment.com/#

Based in B3, St Leonard’s Rd, London NW10 6ST
Feral Equipment, a company renowned for its custom rigs and top-notch service offering not just cameras but also lighting and grip equipment.  To get a better understanding of what sets them apart, we asked a few questions about their services and the latest gear they offer.

What makes Feral Equipment stand out among other camera rental companies in London?

Feral Equipment naturally stocks all of the usual high-end rental house fare and is able to service full Camera/Grip/Lighting Packages, but what sets us apart is our range of bespoke camera rigs which are used everywhere from low budget music videos to Hollywood blockbusters. We specialise in body mounted cameras for either POV or locked-to-talent shots, but also have a range of “big rigs” for massive 360s around, or sweeping arcs above, talent. Of course we also provide a custom rig building service, where a production can tell us what shot they need and we then build the rig to measure.

What new piece of camera equipment are you most excited to rent right now?

We recently purchased the only Cinetica Nu.Tron available in the UK – this is an amazing bit of kit that we honestly think will revolutionise how camera movement is approached on set. You have to see it to believe it, but the best way we can describe it is a dolly, slider, crane, and steadicam all rolled into one compact unit that fits in most locations and can be operated by a single person without extensive training. It’s the sort of thing you really have to try out yourself to really get your head around.

What is the most popular choice of equipment for commercial use?

Aside from the usual bread-and-butter Arri camera packages we offer, we’ve found that the Sony FX3 paired with our Kryten Helmet rig and some nice vintage glass is a very popular option. Over the past couple of years we’ve also seen a big increase in the rental of our arm rigs and custom modified RX02 camera (probably off the back of the IDLES War video we did). This camera is small enough to to fit on all of our rigs, specifically designed for our arm and leg rigs, whilst being able to take super 16 cine-glass and shoot 4K Slog footage to match.

What new piece of camera equipment are you most excited to rent right now?

We are excited to introduce the DZO Arles lenses to our inventory. These fast T1.4 Full Frame lenses offer impressive build quality and optics at an affordable price point.

What is the most popular choice of equipment for commercial use?

Our Ronin 4D 8K paired with Cooke SP.3 lenses has become a top choice for commercial projects. This versatile combination is ideal for a wide range of production needs, making it popular among our renters.

MOONSHINE HIRE

https://moonshinefilm.com

Based in 95 Horseferry Rd, London SW1P 2DX
They offer both kit and crew hire, available for wet and dry hire, operating around the clock. Additionally, they provide equipment for sale. Their kit includes cameras, drones, FPV systems, gimbals, transmissions, and sound equipment. Conveniently situated just a five-minute walk from Pimlico Tube Station.

What makes Moonshine stand out among other camera rental companies in London?

The first thing that stands out about Moonshine is that we provide a range of eclectic and experienced wet hire crews alongside our dry hire equipment, giving the client many options when hiring from us. For example, only a few other rental houses provide drone op teams, full ground crews, etc.

What is great about this is that the client gets everything from one place, which substantially simplifies the process of finding external crew and kit separately. Furthermore, we come with a Unit van with charging and a mag liner, which boosts workflow substantially. We also have quite a few pieces of equipment that are surprisingly rare to find, such as full Inspire 3 setups, segways, and more!

We are the most central-based rental company in London, running out of our Pimlico location. This gives clients more accessibility, with a 7-day-a-week service operating from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. This makes us quite a unique and essential option for many renters who cannot access other rental houses during these times.

Moonshine’s background is also unique. It is run by two brothers of Afro-Caribbean descent and a member who migrated from Ukraine at a young age. This makes us effectively the industry’s underdogs. We have come from humble beginnings, faced challenges, and reached the point where we can provide a range of camera equipment and crew for clients worldwide.

What new piece of camera equipment are you most excited to rent right now?

We are most excited to rent out our DJI RONIN 4D Full package, including our Cooke SP3 lenses and options such as Three-Channel Focus and Master Wheels. This setup makes it viable for feature-film productions, for which we have already seen the equipment being used dramatically due to its user integration and high-level gimbal settings, making it silky smooth.

What is the most popular choice of equipment for commercial use?

Conversely, the most popular option for commercial use at this moment is our Ronin 4D setup! The sleek nature of the camera and the addition of our additional equipment make it an incredibly suitable option. However, depending on the client’s budget, we still use the ARRI MINI LF/ARRI SUPER 35 option with our Movi Pro, in which we bring the whole crew, I.e., DOP, Focus Puller, and 2nd AC.
